Repatriate: to go home again: Latin: to go home again – rare occurrence in which the word has an exact translation

Repatriate

For every major story related to military history there are countless collateral stories. A POW who had been imprisoned for 5+ years in Viet Nam was finally repatriated. One of the first excursions he made upon his return was to take his three daughters out for ice cream. When the server handed over three cones, the father handed him a dollar bill – the price of ice cream before he was deployed,  plus his years in prison. The server looked at the dollar and said “Where have you been?” The father did not respond.
